FAQs
Who can participate in the tournament?
Anyone who is a member of Play Tennis Lewisham! The tournament aims to bring the community together, using Ladywell Courts as a hub for tennis.
What are the tournament rules and guidelines?
Be nice, be fair, be fun! We all love a competition, but above all, the tournament aims to bring our community together and share the passion for tennis.
Players must be available to play on the scheduled weekends, with provisional schedules released closer to the event. Players have to arrive 20 minutes before their scheduled match time.
What is the tournament format (single elimination, round-robin)?
For the men’s and women’s singles categories, as well as the men’s and women’s plate, the match format will be single elimination. For the men’s, women’s, and mixed doubles categories, the format will be determined based on the number of entries.
To what player level is the tournament open?
Ladywell Cup is open to all tennis levels.
How do I sign up for the tournament?
Scroll to the bottom of the landing page, where you’ll find the “Register here” button. This will redirect you to the LTA website, where you can complete your registration.
Can I participate in multiple categories within the tournament?
Players are welcome to participate in a maximum of two categories. This is to ensure that a larger number of community members can take part, aligning with the tournament’s goal of bringing the community together.
Is there a waitlist if the tournament is full?
Yes, if a category is full and you wish to enter the tournament, you can add your name to the waitlist by emailing [email protected].
Are doubles players matched up?
No, players should find their double partners and register together. Each player needs to register individually, so please coordinate with your partner before entering.
Can I change my doubles partner after I have registered?
Yes, you can change your doubles partner before the first round match takes place. However, if a player is unable to participate after the first match, it will result in a walkover.
What is the schedule for the tournament, and where can I find it?
The play schedule, with estimated times for the hosted weekends, will be released two days prior to the match day. Please note that these times are estimates and may change due to various factors, including weather. We ask all players to remain flexible with their schedule.
What should I do if I can't make my match?
If your first match is scheduled for August and can be rescheduled to take place before the 31st of August, that is fine. Please contact your assigned group host for assistance. If your match is scheduled for the weekends of the 13th-14th or 20th-21st of September, and you cannot make it, it will be considered a walkover.
How will disputes or complaints be handled during the tournament?
We encourage all players to compete fairly, with a competitive spirit, while maintaining a friendly and respectful demeanour. If a dispute arises during an unsupervised match, the recommended course of action is to replay the point. During the tournament-hosted weekend, please approach one of the organisers for assistance.
What happens if the weather is bad on the match day?
As much as we all wish for sunny days and no wind to play tennis, the weather is unpredictable. In case of bad weather, matches will be called off. The decision will be made on the morning of the event, with the option to reschedule for the following weekend.
Are balls going to be provided for the tournament match?
Balls will be provided for all categories during the semi-finals and finals. For earlier rounds, all players are asked to bring a new can of balls. If you win your match, you can keep the unopened can of balls for the next round. If you lose, you will keep the used balls, so we all keep some tennis balls for practice.
Are the warm-up courts prior to the match available?
When possible, a warm-up court will be made available. Players have 10 minutes to warm up on their assigned match courts before their matches. If players wish for a longer warm-up, we advise booking nearby courts in advance.
How do I contact the tournament organisers for support or inquiries?
You can contact the tournament organisers via email at [email protected].
If I cannot participate in the tournament anymore, can I get a refund?
If you are unable to attend the tournament (we’ll miss you!), you may be eligible for a refund if the organisers are notified at least 48 hours before the tournament begins on 1st August.
Unfortunately, no refunds will be issued once the tournament has started, and this policy applies throughout the duration of the Ladywell Cup.
